Canal du Midi discovery area

Ouvert en Septembre du mercredi au dimanche de 14 h à 18 h

Linking the Mediterranean Sea to the Atlantic Ocean... a dream that has been alive since antiquity. Pierre-Paul Riquet, a 17th-century Languedoc nobleman, made it happen! Along with the Château de Versailles, the Canal du Midi is the most important monumental achievement of the reign of Louis XIV.

Prior booking is required for the guided tour of the Robinet gallery.
In 2024 The RESERVOIR is open every day during the Easter and All Saints' Day vacations in Zone C (Academies of Toulouse, Montpellier, Paris, Créteil, Versailles).

A few words about the Discovery Centre and the Park

Saint-Ferréol is one of the most emblematic sites on the Canal du Midi: its water supply system and its springs.

Water for the Canal du Midi comes from the Montagne Noire. To the water captured from the Alzeau river is added that of a dozen small streams. The water is then channeled into a large basin held back by a dam, known today as Lac de St Ferréol.

LE RESERVOIR: this is the word used by 17th-century cartographers to designate this reservoir in the Canal du Midi's water supply system.
The term is also used at the foot of the dam, in the former "Maison de l'Ingénieur", to describe the museum space dedicated to the history of the Canal du Midi and its water supply system.

A name to describe this place where the canal's resources converge: a reservoir of water, a reservoir of technical and scientific knowledge, a reservoir of experience, a reservoir of ideas, a reservoir of collective intelligence, a reservoir of encounters, a reservoir of stories.
